First Kicks Programme Information

The First Kicks programme is designed to provide a fun and enjoyable experience for both new and experienced junior players. In these grades, we offer our members a programme based on the four school terms. You may register your child for any of the terms you like at any time during the term and pay ONLY for the remaining of the programme when you join.

Our programmes are run by our Coaches and assisted by Youth players and Volunteer Parent Coaches, all overseen by our Director of Football – Tsetso.

Providing children a safe, fun, and rewarding environment to learn Football

It is essential that our young players are exposed to a high-quality experience that’s designed to meet their needs. This will be their first experience of playing Football in an organised environment, which can be the deciding factor for whether they fall in love with sport or not. This initiation phase allows children to discover the game at their own speed and creates a positive experience with an emphasis on fun and enjoyment.

First Kicks is for our players aged 4, 5, and 6 (the age they turn during the year).

We offer two sessions throughout the year.

Training Session – at each training players are divided in small groups by the coaches. This programme is based on the FUNdamentals of Football. In every training we focus on FUN games which develop some of the basic motor skills such as running, jumping, and change of direction, alongside dribbling and shooting games.  There is also a set of 1v1 and 2v2 activities and small-sided Games designed to boost the confidence of the young Footballers.

Game Day – Here players are divided into groups between 16-20 players at the beginning of each term. This programme purely focuses on the Game. After a short warm-up mainly with balls, we use a few different game activities to put the players in situations where they have Fun, but they will also get challenged and forced to make their own football decisions. At the end of every game day in the last game we play “Golden Goal” – which means regardless of the score whoever team scores the “Golden Goal” – wins the game and more importantly, the Goal scorer is the “Super Hero”.

If it’s raining…

If we need to cancel training or a game day due to bad weather, we will update our Facebook page and WhatsApp group 2 hours prior to the event. Normally with light rain, we let the session go ahead (unless parks are closed by CCC)

How to best support your child and their team

The best way to help your child is to

  • have them attend training  and/or game day and be on time
  • teach your child to play by the rules, respect game officials and respect others
  • provide lots of positive encouragement from the sidelines because it is the best way to support the team and your child

What Your Child Will Need

  • Shin pads are essential – no shin pads, no game
  • FC Twenty 11 Playing Shirt – can be purchased through our online shop (option in Term 4 and Term 1)
  • FC Twenty 11 Playing Shorts – can be purchased through our online shop (option in Term 4 and Term 1)
  • Red Socks – can be purchased through our online shop (option in Term 4 and Term 1)
  • Adequate footwear – football boots or training shoes are preferred (no gum boots or open-toed shoes)
  • A hat for the sunny days or a beanie for the cold days
  • Water bottle – a full drink bottle is an essential
  • Warm clothing for after the session

Loss of Interest

Kids will occasionally lose interest and not want to take part. This is OK; it happens to all of us at some stage. If this does occur let them come back in their own time or have a quiet word to the coach who can help slowly re-integrate the child back into the game.

Slipped Halos

Every now and again kids will become upset and disruptive. If this does occur the coach will intervene to address the behaviour, as a parent we would ask you to support your coaches’ actions.
